Unfortunate news today—Aerion Supersonic is shutting down
A lot of talented, passionate people at Aerion Supersonic have been working incredibly hard over the years to bring their vision of supersonic travel to life. I’ve had the privilege of knowing several of their engineers and executives personally—brilliant minds and true believers in the future of faster flight. I wish every one of them continued success in whatever comes next.
Building a next-generation aircraft, especially one as ambitious as a civilian supersonic jet, takes more than engineering expertise, customers, and industry partnerships. It takes patient capital—investors who understand the long game, the risks, and the transformative potential of what supersonic flight can deliver.
Aerion’s shutdown is a tough moment, but it is not the end of the story. If anything, it’s a reminder of just how bold and audacious this industry is. Supersonic flight will return. The vision is sound, the need is real, and the technology continues to advance.
To the Aerion team: thank you for your contributions. You’ve helped move the industry forward and inspired countless others along the way.
